Exploration 7_Demo Reel!

The Demo Reel is done! I used cutout paper designs to make the title sequences and I think it is really representative of my style and my pieces throughout the semestre.

Exploration 6_Final

I am extremely proud of the way this piece turned out! I worked a lot with the blending modes in After Effects for the first time and added a photoshop brush as a graphic element which I think was really great to help tie the whole piece together!

Below is a link to the final piece

Exploration 6_Progress

Here are my storyboarded ideas for Exploration 6! I am really excited for this project and I think its going to be extremely strong visually.

Exploration 6_Beginning Stages

The concept behind my piece for Exploration 6 is an idea that has always fascinated me. I wish to
explore and convey the fact that everything in the world is based off of or moves in circles and cycles.
In my piece I want to bring awareness to the core similarities of everything in our life by showing
the visual circular and cycular parallels between vital things on our planet and in our universe.
My overall message is that everything is connected and that our reality exists in an endless repetition.
In a sense, we are all a part of something bigger and we are all a part of it together.

Exploration 5_Final

The Breakfast at Tiffanys animation is complete!

Making the puppets was really fun because I had to convert a blonde barbie into the ever so classy Audrey Hepburn. I am really happy with the final piece and I think it turned out very well, it is simple and sophisticated just like the movie :)

Exploration 5_Part 2

I have created my storyboard for the Breakfast at Tiffany's 3D commercial! I really like the colour scheme of the whole thing
and I think it is really strong design wise.

I received very good feedback during class saying that this
represented the movie very well and that it is working well
aesthetically. However, the timing might be a little long and I
may have to eliminate the beginning part that uses the box.

Exploration 5_Part 1

We are now moving on to Exploration 5!

In this project we will begin to work with 3D animation. The project guidelines are to create a 3D commercial for a movie, video game, or tv show.

I have already done some brainstorming and I have a few ideas. I think I would like to focus more upon a movie commercial. My favourite idea is to create a commercial for Breakfast at Tiffanys because I think I could make the design and style elements really strong with this movie.

Exploration 4_Final

I think that overall the final piece came out very well! I had to go back and do some revisions and there is certainly still room for improvement but I am mostly very satisfied with it, I think it was an original idea that worked well with the overall image of SYFY and the aesthetics are nice :)

Exploration 4_Part 2

I have finally come up with my idea! I want to start off with a man walking through a city (very ordinary) and then he runs into an "invisible wall" or clear glass. He begins to bang upon the glass and then his whole world starts to tilt. The shot will then cut to a long shot of a snowglobe falling off a shelf, the snowglobe will then shatter on the group and reveal the SYFY logo.

I have designed and cut my figures and I am now beginning to animate with them. The most challenging part is definitely making my character walk, particularly because my figure is only made of paper and it keeps ripping!

Exploration 4_Part 1

We are now starting the SyFy channel project! I am extremely excited to see what everyone comes up with. At first it may seem more difficult to be limited by the audio requirements, but I personally have always seen limitation as freedom and I am excited to listen to the track over and over again until I come up with my idea!

Exploration 3_Final

I have finished Exploration 3! Overall I received good critique and I had a lot of fun doing this project. I really liked the way my heavy ball bounce looked and my average speed parabolic ball bounce. Doing the 3D one was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be and I feel that I have come along way since the beginning of this project as far as my understanding of animation principles (especially in the aspect of exaggeration).

Exploration 3_Part 2

Animating by hand is actually extremely fun! I was intimidated at first but I am finding myself really enjoying it. It is exciting seeing the ball come to life after shooting each frame in dragon stop motion. I had to redo the first animation 3 times but now I think I have got the hang of it! So far I have finished the first 3 animations and I will start the last 3 soon!

Exploration 3_Part 1

We were assigned 6 hand drawn ball bounce animations. We are to create these animations using light boxes and animation paper. The first ball bounce is simply up and down with a slowing in and out. The second ball bounce is the same up and down, easing in and out, but the difference is we are to use squash and stretch. The next three bounces use squash and stretch following sine waves, each animation the ball will move at a different speeds due to their difference in weights. One the ball will move as if it were of an average weight, the second the ball will move as if it were heavy, and the third the ball will move as if it were light. The final animation will explore a ball bouncing through 3D space using sine waves, and squash and stretch. It is a lot of work and Ive never animated this way before but I am excited!

Exploration 2

Exploration 2 consisted of creating jointed silhouettes from cut out paper and button snaps. We had to display the different animation techniques through a tail, jointed tail, sine wave, fist pound, and whip crack. The tail and the jointed tail were the most challenging for me, and I redid them about 7 times each. I think I over thought everything and that if I went back again fresh I would be able to do it properly. The whip crack and the fist pound were interesting to do because I really got a new insight into the meaning of "breaking joints" and exaggerating motion in animation.

Exploration 2 Introduction

We have been assigned to create 6 hand drawn ball bounce animations exploring weight, gravity, squash, stretch, parabolic, and 3D movement. We will create these using animation paper, animation pencils, and light boxes. They will then be photographed under the stop motion cameras to create a 2D animation!
